O edifício foi projetado de acordo com o alinhamento da área onde foi instalado, com exceção do piso -3, que se projeta em direção ao terreno da escarpa.
Portanto, propõe-se a implantação volumétrica do prédio ao norte, em frente à praça e rua principal, conformada à frente "urbana" do campus, para então "reproduzir" a vertente natural, simultaneamente suspendendo o piso -3 e acentuando a horizontalidade do edifício, aproximando-se da inclinação da terra que enfatiza os critérios de diluição e suavização da rigidez do edifício na paisagem.
Sua forma apesar dos 6 andares se justifica na busca pelo contato e manutenção do perfil natural da encosta e acesso aos níveis mais baixos propostos.
O edifício é composto basicamente de 3 unidades volumétricas por meio da base do programa que foi proposto, formalmente identificável e correspondente:
a) Ao volume das áreas de pesquisa correspondentes aos laboratórios em três andares da rua, de expressão mais sólida que permite uma maior flexibilidade e polivalência destinada ao uso dos espaços internos, cuja suspensão indica a área dos espaços públicos comuns com base em transparências de áreas administrativas mais abertas à comunidade e um atrativo espaço duplo para ir à cafetaria, auditório e serviços de apoio;
b) O volume misto de plataformas computacionais para apoio laboratorial com a parte de pesquisa do biotério;
c) O volume suspenso do solo inferior do biotério.
A estrutura da fachada de 6 metros corresponde ao módulo repetível, a unidade base dos laboratórios e pátios. O edifício é composto principalmente de caixas envoltos pela "pele" – que estrutura um ritmo coerente que produz um efeito de unidade na composição dos volumes. Assim, o número restrito de elementos modulados rigorosos, repetidos pelo uso da técnica de composição, cria flexibilidade e dinâmica. A ênfase dada à "pele" do edifício é sempre legível e programável identificável em seus aspetos formais, funcionais e construtivos.
The building was designed according to the alignment of the area where the plan was installed, with the exception of floor -3, which projects towards the terrain of the escarpment.
Therefore, it is proposed that the volumetric implantation of the building is located to the north, in front of the plaza and main street, conforming to the "urban" front of the campus, which then "reproduces" the natural slope, simultaneously suspending the floor -3 and accentuating the horizontality of the building, approaching the slope of the land that emphasizes the criteria of dilution and softening of the rigidity of the building in the landscape.
Its shape despite 6 floors is justified in the search for contact and maintenance of the natural profile of the slope and access to the lower levels proposed.
The building is basically composed of 3 volumetric units which are based of the proposed program, formally identifiable and corresponding:
a) For the research areas, this is the laboratories, the volume is broken into three floors with direct access from the street level, it is characterised by a solid expression that allows for the use of the interior spaces in a more flexible and polyvalent manner, the common areas of the public spaces are demarcated by an extract made in the volume, which includes an administrative area with a transparent flowing concept that is more open to the community and leads to an attractive double space which direct down to the cafeteria, auditorium and support services;
b) a volume with a mixed program, is used to provide support for the research section of the biotério laboratories;
c) The suspended volume of the lower floor level of the biotério.
The structure of the 6 meter façade is correspondent to the repeatable module, the base unit of the laboratories and patios. The building is mainly composed of boxes whose envelope - the "skin" - structures a coherent rhythm that produces a unified effect in the composition of the volumes. Thus, the restricted number of rigorous modulated elements, repeated by the use of compositional technique, creates flexibility and dynamics. The emphasis given to the "skin" of the building is always legible and programmatically identifiable in its formal, functional and constructive aspects.
